Want to Work in Singapore’s Construction Sector? Here’s How to Get Your SEC(K) Certificate

If you are a skilled worker from India, Bangladesh, or Myanmar, and you want to work in Singapore’s construction sector, you need to pass the SEC(K) test first.

But don’t worry — we’ll explain the whole process in simple terms below.

What is SEC(K)?

SEC(K) stands for Skills Evaluation Certificate – Knowledge.

It is a skills test that includes:

✅ A short written test (multiple choice questions), and
✅ A hands-on practical test (you show your skills in your trade like tiling, plastering, painting, etc.)

Once you pass this test, you get the Basic Skilled status, which is needed for a Work Permit in Singapore.

📍 Where Can You Take the Test?

You can take the test in your home country before coming to Singapore. There are Overseas Testing Centres (OTCs) that are officially approved to run these tests.

Here are the testing centres:

Bangladesh

* Fonda Test Centre – Dhaka
* Santarli STL Test Centre – Gazipur
* ComfortDelgro Test Centre – Turag
* South Point Skills Centre – Ashulia
* Lian Beng Test Centre – Dhaka
* Progressive Test Centre – Ashulia

India

* HTTC Overseas Training and Testing Services Pvt Ltd – Kolkata
* TTJ Test Centre – Telangana

Myanmar

* Htet-Oo Test Centre
* Kabar-Tiong Seng Test Centre

You do not need to come to Singapore just to take the test. You can do it in your home country.

📝 How to Register for the Test?

1. Find an employer in Singapore who is willing to hire you.
2. The employer will register you for the test through a process called Request for Approval (RA).
3. You prepare and go for the test at the OTC in your country.
4. The cost of the test is about S$925 (the employer usually pays this).

📆 When Can You Take the Test?

Tests are held every month (except in May — and also July for Bangladesh).
Your employer must register you early as slots fill up fast.

🛫 After You Pass the Test

1. Your employer applies for your Work Permit In-Principle Approval (IPA).
2. You fly to Singapore with the IPA letter.
3. Go to BCA Braddell Campus in Singapore for a final check and confirmation.
4. After that, you will officially get your SEC(K) and can start work!

📣 Final Tips for Workers

  • The test includes both theory and practical, so prepare well.
Try to get some training before going for the test.
  • Do not trust agents who say they can “guarantee” you pass — you need to show your real skills.
The process is fair, but you must be ready and honest.

🔧 Ready to Build Your Future?

Singapore needs skilled construction workers like you. With hard work and the right skills, you can build a strong future for yourself and your family. Just follow the steps, prepare well, and pass the SEC(K) test — and you’ll be on your way.
