Work Permit renewals should be planned several months in advance to avoid disruptions to ongoing projects and manpower shortages.
Before submitting a renewal application, employers should verify the following:
1. Passport Validity
A passport validity of approximately 25 months is recommended if you wish to obtain the full 2-year Work Permit renewal period.
2. ACS / Safety Course Validity
Construction workers should have at least one month of validity remaining on their ACS or safety certification during renewal.
3. Security Bond Validity
Ensure that the Security Bond remains valid throughout the renewed Work Permit period.
4. FWMI Validity
Confirm that Foreign Worker Medical Insurance remains active and covers the renewal duration.
5. PCP Validity
Where applicable, verify that the Primary Care Plan remains active.
6. Quota and DRC Compliance
Review your company’s available quota and ensure compliance with MOM’s Dependency Ratio Ceiling requirements.
7. Levy Payment Status
Check for outstanding levy payments, as unpaid levies may affect renewal approval.
8. R1 Ratio Requirement
Construction companies should ensure compliance with the required percentage of Higher Skilled (R1) workers where applicable.
9. Employment Period and Age Limits
Verify that the worker remains eligible under MOM’s maximum employment period and age requirements.
10. Worker Particulars
Ensure that passport details and personal information in MOM records are accurate and up to date.
Starting the renewal review process at least 2 to 3 months before expiry helps employers avoid last-minute issues and maintain workforce continuity.
